Drupal Migrations

Drupal migration & platform engineering

Move to Drupal. Keep your content, lose the licence bill.

We migrate websites, portals and intranets from proprietary and ageing platforms to Drupal 11, then design them to run as enterprise applications: structured content, single sign-on, approval workflows and APIs for your apps and partners. You own the code and the data, and there are no licence fees to renew.

$0

Licence fees. Drupal is open source (GPL), for any number of sites, users and servers.

1 codebase

Many sites. Run brands, regions or departments from one install with Drupal multisite.

Repeatable

Migrations are code. Rehearse them as often as you like, and roll back cleanly.

API-first

JSON:API is built into core, ready for mobile apps, partners and front-end frameworks.

Migration paths

Where you’re coming from, and what changes

Every platform stores content differently. We map yours to a clean Drupal content model, so you get a better site, not a copy of the old one’s workarounds.

From Adobe Experience Manager

Enterprise features without the enterprise licence

AEM is powerful, but it comes with a large annual licence and a small pool of specialist developers. Drupal covers the same ground: components, digital assets, workflows and multilingual sites.

What we move

  • Pages and components, rebuilt as reusable content blocks
  • Digital assets with their metadata and tags
  • Authors, groups and approval steps

Where you save: the licence renewal, plus the cost of specialist AEM staff.

From Sitecore

Stop paying for upgrade projects

Sitecore licences, and the major upgrades that come with them, add up. Drupal’s major versions are designed for smooth upgrades, and there’s nothing to relicense.

What we move

  • Templates and items, rebuilt as content types and fields
  • Your media library and taxonomies
  • Personalisation rules, through modules or your existing tools

Where you save: licence and support contracts, and the multi-month upgrade projects.

From WordPress at scale

When the plugin list gets out of hand

WordPress is great for blogs. As a site grows into a platform, paid plugins, page-builder lock-in and loose permissions become hard to manage. Drupal builds structure, roles and workflow into core.

What we move

  • Posts, pages, custom post types and custom fields
  • Media, menus, categories and tags
  • Users and their roles, with URLs kept or redirected

Where you save: premium plugin subscriptions, and the time spent patching them.

From Drupal 7

Off an unsupported version

Drupal 7 reached end of life in January 2025, so it no longer gets community security updates. Drupal’s core migration tools move most of the content automatically. We rebuild the custom parts properly.

What we move

  • Content types, fields, taxonomy, files and users
  • Custom modules, rewritten for Drupal 11
  • Themes, redesigned or carried over as they are

Where you save: paid extended support, and the cost of a security incident.

From SharePoint & Confluence

Intranets and portals people actually use

Document-centred tools are hard to brand, hard to open to partners and customers, and slow to change. Drupal turns the content into a fast portal that keeps your existing sign-in.

What we move

  • Pages, documents and their metadata
  • Site structure and navigation
  • Groups and permissions, linked to your directory

Where you save: add-on products and custom workarounds, and admin time.

From custom & legacy systems

Retire the code nobody wants to touch

Homegrown PHP, .NET or ColdFusion sites hold years of valuable content but depend on the few people who understand them. We pull the data straight from the database, files or APIs.

What we move

  • Database tables, CSV and spreadsheet exports, XML and JSON feeds
  • Files and images, de-duplicated
  • Business rules, rebuilt as supported modules

Where you save: maintaining one-off code, and the risk of key people leaving.

Cost savings

Where the money actually comes from

Removing the licence is the obvious saving. Over time, the bigger ones come from running one platform instead of many, and from being able to hire for it.

We run our own products this way. MiniBizSuite serves several branded sites from a single Drupal 11 codebase with one shared configuration, deployed from Git, on standard cloud hosting.

No licence fees

No charges per site, user or server, and no renewal negotiations. Your budget goes into features.

Ordinary hosting

Drupal runs on standard PHP and MySQL, from a single cloud server up to autoscaled containers behind a CDN. There’s no proprietary cloud to buy.

One platform, many sites

Multisite and shared configuration let one team run every brand. You fix something once and it’s fixed everywhere.

Modules, not custom builds

Tens of thousands of community modules cover common needs, so custom code goes only where you’re different.

A wide talent pool

Drupal is built on PHP and Symfony, among the most widely known web stacks, so you’re not tied to scarce specialists.

No lock-in

You own the code, the content and the database. Switch hosts or partners whenever you want.

Enterprise application design

Not just a new website: a platform built to last

A migration is the best chance to fix the architecture. We design Drupal as the content and business layer behind every channel you run, not as a page builder.

Every channel

Websitesone codebase, many brands
Mobile & web appsJSON:API, GraphQL
CRM, ERP, partnersqueues, webhooks, REST

Content modelled, not pasted

Content types, fields and reusable components replace free-form pages, so content can be searched, reused and sent to any channel.

Headless when it helps

JSON:API in core, plus GraphQL when needed, serves apps and React or Next.js front ends from the same content, with no second CMS.

Governance built in

Draft, review and publish workflows with full revision history, plus fine-grained permissions for every role and team.

Your sign-in

Single sign-on through SAML or OpenID Connect with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Google, with group-to-role mapping.

Config as code

Every setting is exported to Git, reviewed and deployed by CI with drush deploy. Environments stay identical, and changes can be audited.

Fast and secure by default

Layered caching, BigPipe and a CDN keep pages fast. Advisories from the Drupal Security Team and a regular update schedule keep the site secure.

How we migrate

Rehearsed, measured, and no surprises on launch day

Migrations are written as code and run many times before go-live. By cutover, the final run is routine.

  1. 01

    Audit & inventory

We catalogue content, traffic, integrations and URLs, and decide what to move, merge or retire. Most sites carry years of content nobody reads.

  2. 02

    Design the platform

We design the content model, roles, workflows, SSO and integration points, and agree on them before any code is written.

  3. 03

    Build the migration

Migrate API scripts map every field from the old system to the new one. They’re tracked, repeatable and can be rolled back.

  4. 04

    Rehearse & validate

Full test runs with record counts, spot checks and accessibility tests, plus a complete redirect map so search rankings carry over.

  5. 05

    Cut over

A short content freeze, a final run for any changes since the last rehearsal, then the switch. The old site stays on standby until you sign off.

  6. 06

    Support & improve

Security updates, monitoring and a roadmap, or a full hand-over with documentation to your own team. You choose.

Questions

What teams usually ask first

Will we lose our search rankings?
Not if URLs are handled properly. We keep URL paths where we can and map every other one to a permanent (301) redirect. Page titles, meta descriptions and structured data move with the content, and we check the redirect map against your analytics before launch.
How much downtime is there?
Usually none for visitors. The new site is built and rehearsed alongside the old one. At cutover there’s a short editorial content freeze while the final changes come across, then DNS switches over.
How long does a migration take?
It depends on how much content there is, how complex the integrations are and how much redesign you want. A brochure site can move in weeks, and a multi-site enterprise platform is usually phased over a few months. The assessment gives you a scoped plan and a fixed estimate before you commit.
Can we keep our CRM, ERP and sign-in?
Yes. Drupal connects to existing systems through APIs, webhooks and scheduled jobs, and handles single sign-on through SAML or OpenID Connect. Integrations are usually cleaner than before, because they’re built against a defined content model.
Is open source secure enough for an enterprise?
Drupal runs sites for governments, universities and large enterprises, and has a dedicated Security Team that publishes coordinated advisories. Security depends on keeping the site updated and configured properly. We do that as part of support, or set up your team to do it.
Do we have to redesign at the same time?
No. We can carry over your current design, refresh it, or run a full redesign. Many teams migrate first and redesign once they’re on the new platform, which keeps each project smaller.
